scandal A scandal is something that can happen when people find out about something bad that someone has done or might have done. When many people start talking about this bad thing, it starts a scandal. If the newspaper reports that the mayor of a town does something that most people think is bad--like stealing or cheating in some serious way--then a scandal might begin. A scandal often involves a famous person that people have trusted or respected.
