charge When you charge something like a telephone, you put electrical power into it so that it can work. Some things that use electricity get it through wires that plug into an electrical source. But electrical things without wires get their electricity from something called "batteries." When we charge a telephone, we are charging the batteries inside it so that the phone will have the power to work in any place we want it to. [1/9 definitions]
plug A plug is a thing used for getting electricity to something like a lamp or television or toaster. A plug is made of plastic or rubber, and it has two or three round or flat pieces of metal that stick out from it. A plug is attached to the end of a cord, and the cord is connected to something that uses electricity. To bring electricity to this thing, we put the plug into something called an outlet in the wall. When the plug is in the outlet, electricity flows through the cord. [1/4 definitions]
plug in When you plug in something that needs electricity to work, like a toaster or lamp, you connect it to a power source.
socket A socket is an opening that is made so that another thing can fit into it. The socket that most of us know is an electrical socket. Walls have electrical sockets that people can put a plug into. When a plug is in the socket, it receives electricity and lets it flow through a wire to something that uses electricity, like a lamp or a toaster.
