destiny |
Destiny is an invisible power that many people believe in. Destiny is the force that makes things certain to happen. If you believe in destiny, you believe that a certain thing or certain things MUST happen to you during your life. You cannot stop these things from happening and you cannot change them. If it is your destiny to become a movie star, for example, then you will become one. [1/2 definitions] |
influence |

invisible |
When something is invisible, you can't see it. |
molecule |
A molecule is something made up of a single atom or a group of atoms. Atoms are tiny invisible things that make up everything in the world, and there are many different kinds of atoms. A molecule can have just one type of atom, or it can have atoms of different types. Water, for example, is a substance whose molecules are made up of two different types of atoms. One molecule of water contains two atoms of an element called hydrogen and one atom of an element called oxygen. This is the smallest amount of water that is possible, because, if you take away any one of these atoms, the molecule is not water anymore. If you change one of the atoms to something different or add more atoms, you don't have water anymore. If you want to create more water than this one molecule, you have to add at least one more molecule with exactly the right atoms. All water is made up of these same molecules. |

radar |
When people use radar, they use a kind of system that sends out invisible waves that travel through the air to track where and how far away other objects are, like when a ship uses radar to find where other ships are in the water. The ship sends waves out from its location. If the waves hit something, they bounce back to the ship that sent them. When the ship picks up the radar signals coming back, they can figure out where the object is and how far away it is. |
radio |
A radio is something that receives invisible signals from another location and changes them into sound. People use a radio to listen to music, the news, and other programs. [2 definitions] |
signal |
Invisible waves that travel through the air to a radio are called signals. The signals are sent out from a radio station and the radio receives them. Televisions and phones receive signals too that let us see images and hear sounds that come from another place. [1/6 definitions] |
steam |
When you boil water, you create steam. Steam is water in the form of a gas. You can't actually see steam. It is invisible, but it is a powerful gas that actually has the force to make things move. Engines using the power of steam can make a ship travel across an ocean or a train travel across a continent. When steam cools in the air, it forms tiny drops that you can see. We also call this "steam," but the meaning is a little different. [1/5 definitions] |
unseen |
not seen, observed, or discovered; invisible; not noticed. |
X-ray |
An X-ray is a very strong, invisible beam of light that is able to pass through many kinds of solid material. These beams are very often used by doctors for seeing things inside the human body, like a person's bones. [1/3 definitions] |
