funnel A funnel is an open container shaped like a cone with a narrow tube coming out of the end of the it. A funnel is used to make pouring easier when you need to pour something through a small opening. You put the tube into the small opening, fill the cone with the liquid or other substance you want to pour, and let the substance flow through the tube and into the opening. A funnel makes it less likely that things will spill.
