Reverse Search
Reverse Search allows you to search within the full text of dictionary entries for words, word parts, and phrases.
Search for entries that contain:
Exact matches of any of the individual words entered in the search box.
Example: Searching for "apple orange" identifies all entries that contain the word "apple" or the word "orange."
Any form of any of the individual words entered in the search box.
Example: Searching for "apple orange" identifies all entries that contain the word "apple" or "apples" or "orange" or "oranges."
Exact matches of all of the individual words entered in the search box.
Example: Searching for "apple orange" identifies all entries that contain the word "apple" and the word "orange."
The exact sequence of words and/or characters entered in the search box (for example, a fragment of a word, a single word, multiple words, or even a phrase containing punctuation)
Example: Searching for "a variety of apple" identifies all entries that contain that phrase. Searching for "app" identifies all entries that contain the letters "app," such as occurrences of "apple," "application," and "apply."

When you alternate with someone, you take turns doing something. One of you does it, then the other one does it, then you do it again, and so on. [4/7 definitions] |
and so on |
"And so on" means "with more of the same type." It's used when you start a list of something and let your reader or listener imagine the type of things that might follow. If you say "In the closet, there are coats, jackets, and so on," you let your listener imagine other typical things that might be in the closet. They might imagine things like hats, boots, scarves. and umbrellas. |
every other |
If you have toast for breakfast every other day, then maybe you have toast on Monday but not Tuesday, and then on Wednesday but not Thursday, and so on. If the students sit in every other chair in the auditorium, then there is an empty chair between each of the students. |
take turns |
to operate in a fair way that lets two or more people share in an activity intended for one person only. One person has a turn, then the next person has a turn, and so on. |
twentieth |
A twentieth of something is one of twenty equal parts of it. If there is a large cake cut into twenty pieces, then one piece is one twentieth of the whole thing. Two pieces is two twentieths of it, and so on. "One twentieth" written in numbers is 1/20. [1/2 definitions] |
