part of speech: noun
definition: Your spinal cord is a part of your body. It is a thick cord made of nerve tissue that goes from the base of your brain to the end of your lower back. Nerves from all over your body are attached to your spinal cord. Your spinal cord is enclosed in your spine, which is the set of connected bones that go down the center of your back. The bones help protect the spinal cord from injury. Damage to your spinal cord can be very serious.
If there is an injury to the spinal cord, the brain may not be able to communicate to one or more parts of your body. For example, your brain can't tell your legs to move if nerves that run from your spinal cord to your legs are damaged.
