definition: |
Asteroids are chunks of rock that travel around the sun in the same way as planets travel around the sun. Asteroids can be as big as 600 miles across or as small as a single piece of dust. Most asteroids are found between the orbits of the planets Jupiter and Mars.
Sometimes asteroids travel close to the earth, but our atmosphere usually stops them from getting too close by burning them up. |
