definition: If a team plays well but ends up losing, it means that the final result was that the team lost even though it looked possible that they would win. When you end up not going to the park because of the rain, it means that you planned to go to the park, but, in the end, you didn't. When we use "end up," we are talking about what happens in the end or where something goes in the end, even if it wasn't expected or intended at first.
