Manitoban (n.) |
Manitoba probably comes from the Cree words
manitou bou, which mean "the narrows of the Great Spirit." The province was named after Lake Manitoba, which becomes very narrow near its center where the waves make loud noises on the rocks. The Cree believe the sounds come from a huge drum beaten by the spirit
Manitou.
