A duke is a male noble of very high rank in Europe. There are some places where a duke has the highest rank in the society. In England, the rank of a duke is just below the rank of a prince.
In Britain, a man can become a duke if a king or queen wishes to give them that rank. But most dukes nowadays are dukes because their fathers were dukes and their grandfathers were dukes, and so on. America has never had dukes because America does not have a king or queen. |
