definition 1: If you are sitting between your mom and your dad, you are sitting in the middle. Your mom is on one side, and your dad is on the other. When something is between two things, it is in the area that separates those things.
There is a fence between our yard and our neighbor's yard.I like to eat corn, but I don't like when it gets between my teeth!
 
definition 2: When there are two things and we talk about how they are different, we often need the word between. For example, we could say that one difference between a car and a truck is that a truck is bigger.
Do you know the difference between a spider and an insect? An insect always has six legs, but a spider has eight.
definition 3: If you eat lunch between twelve o'clock and one o'clock, it means that you have lunch sometime during that period of time. Maybe you eat lunch at twelve-thirty, for example.
We have a snack at school in the morning, but we don't have a snack between lunch and the time we go home.
Language Note
The prepositions between and among are close in meaning, but there is an important difference in how they are used. Use between when you are talking or writing about two people or things. Use among when you are talking or writing about three or more people or things.
